Castel de la Terrasse

Castel de la Terrasse

Castel de la Terrasse is a Belle Epoque seaside villa built in 1840 using the most representative materials of the Cauchois heritage: flint and brick.

For many years, the house was the home of Victor-Antoine Desfossés, a French banker, art collector and newspaper publisher.
He was knighted with the Legion of Honor in 1888, became director of the literary journal Gil Blas in 1891, and was a patron of Gustave Courbet and Théo and Vincent Van Gogh.
It's in this property steeped in history that we welcome you all year round for your weekends, vacations and family events.

This warm and comfortable house awaits you for a stay of relaxation and well-being at the foot of the white cliffs of Etretat. It offers 5 fully-equipped rooms, personalized and decorated with care for your greatest pleasure, all with private bathroom, king-size or super king-size bedding and flat-screen TV

A quality breakfast to start the day!

Breakfast is served continuously between 09:00 and 11:00.
It's at breakfast that the discovery of the Cauchois terroir begins, as it's prepared with local farm produce, and other homemade products, mostly organic.

The refined breakfast room, with its bright blue tones and sea view, offers a peaceful environment with a visual density generally reserved for residences of the period. The fireplace is enthroned in the middle of huge windows, and direct access to the terraces allows you to enjoy an outdoor breakfast, a confidential place par excellence.

Time Suspended....

It's in the heart of the village of Etretat, at the height of the vacation season under the sun, amidst the hustle and bustle of the bustling town center and the noise of summer visitors, that when Le portail opens, the magic happens...you enter the soothing parkland of Castel de la Terrasse, and time seems to stand still, a freeze on the image, not as sudden as a photograph might make you, but rather a deliberate pause in time, the desire to pause and reflect.

Every season has its pleasures, and when temperatures are plummeting... you'll want to come home in the evening and enjoy a cosy evening by the fire. When it's cold, it's great to warm up, chat with family and friends, or simply let your imagination wander as you watch the flames dance.
In the library lounge, with a glass of wine or a cup of tea, a book, rain, shine or shine, outside... A blaze is always a soothing treat.

Terraces and garden

Medici vases, lavender and authentic wrought-iron garden furniture adorn the Castel's terraces for your relaxation and enjoyment, providing an ideal setting for breakfast or sunbathing in fine weather.

Les Terrasses offers a unique view of the sea and sailing boats passing in the distance, as well as of the village of Etretat and the famous little Chapelle des Marins flanking the Aval cliffs, a truly poetic place.
